Wusmed participates in Unimed

The UNIMED meets universities located on both sides of the Mediterranean in order to promote research in areas such as cultural heritage, environment, health, economy and new communication technologies, to strengthen relations between the EU and various Mediterranean countries.


The historic building of the University of Barcelona has hosted on Tuesday 2nd October a conference of Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED) under the title "UNIMED responds to the European Commission: dialogue in the new framework of international cooperation (UNIMED meets the European Network Commission: Dialogue on the New International cooperation framework). The goal of the summit is to bring together representatives of the EU and UNIMED members and other representatives of institutions in the Mediterranean area, to analyze the international dimension of the new Erasmus for All (Erasmus for All), which provides mobility students between European and non-European states, the new research framework program Horizon 2020, and the redefinition of policy towards neighboring states, with the desire to strengthen and enhance cooperation with academic and research institutions in the countries of the southern Mediterranean. The conference was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of International Relations and Deputy Rector of the University of Barcelona, ​​Dr. Carles Carreras, the secretary general of UNIMED, Franco Rizzi, and the Secretary-General for Higher Education and Research Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean, Ilan Chet.

 

Throughout the conference have been a series of workshops: one on the reform of higher education in the Mediterranean region and the EU neighborhood policy, the other on the Erasmus for All and Marie Curie, and a third workshop on Horizon 2020. In the last session presented the findings and intervene the rector of the University of Salento and UNIMED president, Domenico Laforgia, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Barcelona, ​​Carles Carreras, program director and Lifelong Learning: Higher Education and International Affairs, the Directorate General for Education and Culture of the European Commission, Jordi Curell.
